He has an extensive professional history including work as a social worker, youth coordinator, student advocate, probation and parole officer, alcohol and other drug counsellors, student and family support worker, mental health worker, family therapist, coach, mediator, trainer, and supervisor.

He has worked in the justice, education, and mental health systems as well as the community sector. He has provided services for people from ages 6 to 87 years from all socio-economic backgrounds and a vast number of cultures and ethnicities.

Simon has postgraduate qualifications in Mediation and Professional Supervision.

He is an Associate and Mediation Panel Member of the Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of New Zealand (AMINZ).

He has a personal as well as a professional understanding of the ups, downs and sideways of stepfamily life and has become very passionate about supporting others through what can be an extremely rich experience.

My Journey

Below is my journey, showing my passions from climbing mountains to helping people, mediating their issues, and coaching them today to be the best version of themselves.

Comeback

Simon moved permanently to New Zealand and after a period working in mental health and advocacy, he commenced employment as a student and family social worker. This role was supervised by Celia Lashlie.

Between 2005 and 2007, Simon developed a highly regarded early intervention student and family social work model in Golden Bay. This innovative, dynamic programme and the journey taken in establishing the role was recognised as a potential map for the development of pro-active preventative social work roles in other isolated rural communities in New Zealand.

Here I am.

In 2014, Simon commenced providing Family Dispute Resolutions (FDR) and Preparation for Mediation (PFM) services through FairWay Resolution.

In recent years, Simon has become best known for being at the forefront of the development and facilitation of FairWay’s Preparation for Mediation (PFM) service. He facilitates high quality PFM nationwide via videoconferencing and phone. The success of PFM in the field of FDR Mediation has led to the expansion of the service across other areas of mediation. Simon is currently leading the way with this expansion.

Arrival in Aotearoa

Simon left Melbourne, Australia to immerse himself in a life of climbing. His first stop was Wanaka, New Zealand to learn the art of snow and ice climbing. Over the next three years he travelled around the world with a sole focus on climbing and mountaineering, enjoying the thrill of high level problem solving with extreme consequences.

It became evident though that a life playing in the mountains could not replace his passion for guiding others through life’s difficult journeys.
